BELECTRIC builds largest solar farm in the Netherlands

  • BELECTRIC secures contract to build the largest photovoltaic plant in the Netherlands
  • Construction of a solar farm with an output of 189 megawatts peak (MWp) for customer Novar
  • Eekerpolder becomes the largest European project in BELECTRIC’s history

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, has secured the contract to build the largest solar farm in the Netherlands. With an installed capacity of 189 megawatts peak (MWp), Eekerpolder will also be the largest solar farm built by BELECTRIC in Europe.

A real BELECTRIC success story is unfolding on an area the size of 249 football pitches in the Dutch province of Groningen. From February 2025 until May 2026, the German solar energy company will install more than 300,000 modules for Novar, a developer of green energy systems. With an impressive output of 189 MWp, Eekerpolder is not only the largest BELECTRIC project in Europe, but also the largest photovoltaic plant in the Netherlands.

“The Eekerpolder solar farm will become a milestone on the Dutch solar market. We are proud that Novar has entrusted us with the construction of this unique large-scale project. With more than five gigawatts of installed capacity worldwide and soon to be almost 500 megawatts in the Netherlands, we are underlining our role as one of Europe’s most successful companies for ground-mounted PV”, explains Dr Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC.

Along the way, the BELECTRIC project team must overcome a special challenge: to guarantee the solar farm’s stability for its entire service life despite the clay and peat soils, BELECTRIC adjusts the substructure individually to the conditions on site. A V-profile with a triple layer coating is used to protect the structure from aggressive soil conditions. Once the system has been commissioned, BELECTRIC will take over the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the large-scale project in cooperation with Klaer, Novar’s O&M service provider.

Erik Nederhoed, Project Director at Novar, comments: “We are thrilled to partner with BELECTRIC for the construction of the solar farm Eekerpolder. Their proven expertise in large-scale solar projects ensures the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and innovation. Together, we are building not just a solar farm, but a cornerstone for the energy transition in the Netherlands.”

BELECTRIC Commissions 114-Megawatt Solar Farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

  • Commissioning of 114-megawatt solar farm near Borrentin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany
  • Total capacity installed by BELECTRIC in Germany surpasses 1.2 GWp

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, has commissioned a 114-megawatt peak (MWp) solar farm for its customer, ENCAVIS, a leading independent producer of electricity from renewable energies. The completion of this large-scale plant in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, increases BELECTRIC’s total installed capacity in Germany to over 1.2 gigawatts peak (GWp).

BELECTRIC has successfully commissioned the Borrentin solar farm located in the German Mecklenburgische Seenplatte region. The photovoltaic system built for ENCAVIS will generate approximately 121 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of solar power annually, which will be used to supply energy to a network of electric vehicle charging stations. The rapid construction of this project demonstrates the exceptional collaboration between BELECTRIC employees on and off the construction site, the municipality of Borrentin, the landowner, and BELECTRIC’s customer ENCAVIS.

Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC, adds: “We are proud to have successfully commissioned this major project in Borrentin within such a short timeframe, thanks to the joint effort of our teams, our partner ENCAVIS, and all stakeholders. To date, we have installed over 1.2 GW of solar power in Germany. This means solar plants built by BELECTRIC across the country now provide a nominal capacity equivalent to that of a nuclear power station.”

Mario Schirru, CIO/COO at ENCAVIS, comments: “Together with BELECTRIC, the municipality of Borrentin, and the landowner we have delivered this project, installing 200,000 solar modules across an area the size of 135 football fields. By overcoming challenges collaboratively, we have increased our wind and solar generation capacity in Germany to 700 MW, which brings us a significant step closer to our goal of achieving 7 GW of capacity connected to the grid across Europe by 2027.”

BELECTRIC celebrates 1 GW of installed solar capacity in Germany and 5 GW worldwide

  • BELECTRIC is one of the first companies to reach the milestone of one gigawatt of installed solar capacity in Germany
  • Worldwide, the photovoltaic company has installed more than five gigawatts of cumulative capacity

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, is celebrating two milestones with the recent commissioning of a solar farm and a battery storage system. The solar energy specialist is one of the first companies to break the mark of one gigawatt (GW) of installed photovoltaic capacity in Germany. Since its foundation in 2001, BELECTRIC has already installed systems with a total output of more than five gigawatts worldwide.

With the recent commissioning of a solar farm in Germany and a battery storage system in the United Kingdom, BELECTRIC reaches two important milestones. With almost 520 systems constructed worldwide, the photovoltaic company breaks the mark of a total of five gigawatts of installed capacity. In its home market of Germany, BELECTRIC is one of the first companies to install solar plants with a total output of more than one gigawatt. This corresponds to a total area of around 1,400 football pitches with today’s technology, or roughly the output of the largest conventional large-scale power plants. Since its foundation 23 years ago, BELECTRIC has been making a clear contribution to the energy transition – including one of the largest independent solar farms in Germany. The Tramm-Göthen solar plant measures 172 megawatts peak and has been converting sunlight into electricity since the end of 2021.

“We are proud to have reached these significant milestones. The outlook for the current and upcoming year also confirms BELECTRIC as a reliable and experienced partner: we are currently constructing solar farms with a total capacity of around one gigawatt and have a large project pipeline ahead of us. We look forward to making them a reality together with our employees, who now number almost 600”, explains Dr Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC.

BELECTRIC commissions 128 megawatts in the Netherlands

  • Eight solar farms with a total output of 128 megawatts peak (MWp) commissioned
  • Contract signed with Low Carbon for a further 17 MWp

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, Member of Elevion Group, commissions eight solar farms with a total capacity of 128 MWp in the Netherlands. This strengthens the company’s position as one of the leading EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) service providers on the Dutch market.

With the commissioning of a solar farm in the county of Echt-Susteren in the Netherlands, BELECTRIC completes an eight-part success story. The German solar company has commissioned eight solar power plants with a total capacity of 128 MWp for its customer Low Carbon, a global renewable energy company. The plants are located in the Dutch provinces of Gelderland, Groningen, Limburg, Overijssel, and Utrecht. Even though 2023 was the wettest year on record in the Netherlands and the massive rainfall in autumn affected the construction works, the smooth cooperation of all parties involved led to success. BELECTRIC’s Operations & Maintenance team is now taking over, as BELECTRIC is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the eight projects. In addition, the German company has succeeded in securing a contract for another solar farm with an output of 17 MWp in the Netherlands. This reinforces BELECTRIC’s position as one of the leading EPC service providers on the Dutch market. To date, the company has installed more than 300 MWp of photovoltaic capacity in the country and will soon add almost another 100 MWp.

Steven Hughes, Managing Director of Portfolio Management at Low Carbon, comments: “We are pleased to have commissioned this large portfolio of solar projects, which will support the Dutch government’s efforts to decarbonise the grid. Our long-term partnership with BELECTRIC has been core to this success, and we look forward to working together on the delivery of further projects in the coming months as we continue the fight against climate change.”

The construction works for the commissioned solar farms were focused on the conservation of soils. As the challenging soil conditions on many of the project sites did not offer sufficient stability, the usual driving of the piles for the substructure was not sufficient. Following numerous pull-out tests and analyses, BELECTRIC opted for a special substructure variant with screws that can be removed easily and without leftover material after removal. Thanks to this approach, BELECTRIC helps preserve the health of the soils.

“The fact that Low Carbon selected us to construct these exciting projects speaks volumes about us and our project experience. We have been working successfully with our customer since the beginning of 2022 and look forward to expanding the partnership and helping Low Carbon deliver 20 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030”, explains Dr. Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director at BELECTRIC.

BELECTRIC strengthens its presence on the Danish market with a 135 MWp project

  • BELECTRIC secures a major contract to consolidate its presence on the Danish market
  • Construction of a 135-Megawatt Peak (MWp) solar power plant for NRGi Renewables

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, Member of Elevion Group, secures a contract for a large-scale solar farm near Aarhus in Denmark. By constructing a 135-megawatt solar power plant for NRGi Renewables, the Germany-based company reinforces its presence on the Danish solar power market.

Building on its recent market entry, BELECTRIC has now secured a contract for the company’s biggest photovoltaic project in Denmark to date. On an area equivalent to 175 football fields, BELECTRIC is constructing a 135-MWp solar power plant for its new partner NRGi Renewables, a Danish renewable energy project developer. The solar plant will be located southeast of the town of Kolind near Aarhus (Denmark) and will become a cornerstone in BELECTRIC’s presence on the Danish market. Starting April 2025, more than 220.000 modules on site are expected to cover the annual electricity needs of over 30,000 households with solar energy.

Jakob Bundgaard, CEO at NRGi Renewables, comments: “We’re thrilled to team up with BELECTRIC for our first solar power project. With BELECTRIC’s extensive experience in solar power plant development and construction, along with NRGi Renewables’ local expertise and community engagement, we’ve laid a solid foundation for this ambitious project.”

Special attention in the design of the solar farm was paid to preserving the embankments and water protection areas present on the site. Furthermore, the concerns of residents also played a central role in the solar farm’s design. Additional noise studies have been carried out to ensure minimal affection to neighbouring population due to the presence of inverters on site. As BELECTRIC is committed to reducing the impact of solar farm construction on all relevant stakeholders, the results of this study have been incorporated into the engineering of the plant.

“We are excited to be partnering with NRGi Renewables on an exciting project of this scale. Being chosen for the construction of the Kolind solar farm is a testament to our experience with mega-projects. We might be a medium-sized company, but we can certainly go big!”, explains Dr Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC.

Elevion Group is launching its entry into the Spanish market with BELECTRIC España

Amsterdam (Netherlands) – The Elevion Group is entering the second biggest PV market in the EU, the Spanish market. The first step in the market entry is the establishment of the new local entity of BELECTRIC, BELECTRIC España. The new company will focus on utility-scale activities in photovoltaics and energy storage from project development and EPC to O&M along the entire value chain. To ramp-up the development activities in Spain, Elevion Group finalized an asset deal of the Murcia-based developer Navitacum, which has been fully integrated into BELECTRIC España and will continue its operation under the BELECTRIC brand within the new company.  With this deal Elevion Group and BELECTRIC have gained an experienced team and projects in different phases of development as well as a good customer base.

The Spanish market has evolved into one of the Europe’s most attractive photovoltaic markets ranking second after Germany in terms of new installations. This trend offers significant growth prospects for Elevion Group with its focus on green energy solutions. For BELECTRIC, the step represents the re-entry into the Spanish market, following the construction of the 50 MWp solar farm Alarcos near Poblete, in the Spanish province of Ciudad Real back in 2020.

“With this step, we are setting course for growth and building on our previous project experience in Spain. We will benefit from the expertise of the Spanish team, which has more than 15 years of experience in the market and will now become part of the group, operating further under the BELECTRIC brand.”, explains Jaroslav Macek, CEO of Elevion Group.

Paloma Méndez Pérez has become the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BELECTRIC España. She has already worked for BELECTRIC in the past and has more than 14 years of experience in the Spanish and global photovoltaic industry. In addition to EPC companies, she has also gained experience in large energy utilities. The management board of BELECTRIC España will be complemented by Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC. He knows the Spanish market from his time as the Managing Director of the Andasol solar thermal power plant and his time at innogy, where several hundred megawatts peak of projects were developed.

“BELECTRIC España will cover the photovoltaic business along the entire value chain – from project development and construction to operations and maintenance.”, explains Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC.

BELECTRIC constructs 114-megawatt project in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

  • BELECTRIC secures another major contract in northern Germany
  • Construction of a solar farm with an output of 114 megawatts peak (MWp) for customer Encavis AG

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, Member of Elevion Group, has secured another major contract in northern Germany. With the construction of a 114-megawatt solar farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the solar energy company is further expanding its presence in its German home market.

Less than two years after the commissioning of Tramm-Göthen, one of the largest independent solar power plants in Germany, BELECTRIC has now begun construction on another major project. The company is constructing a solar farm with an installed capacity of 114 MWp near Borrentin, in the region of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, for its customer Encavis AG, a leading independent producer of electricity from renewable energies. On an area equivalent to 135 football fields, BELECTRIC is installing almost 200,000 modules which are expected to cover the annual electricity needs of approximately 35,000 housholds with solar power from September 2024. BELECTRIC is also responsible for the large-scale project’s operation and maintenance (O&M). To mark the start of construction, the solar company held a ground-breaking ceremony on March 19th with its customer Encavis, project partners, Peter Rabe, the mayor of Borrentin, and representatives of the municipality and the press.

Mario Schirru, CIO/COO at Encavis, comments: “Together with BELECTRIC, we are realising our largest solar farm in Germany to date in Borrentin. Following the expected completion in the near future, our connected generating capacity in Germany will increase to a total of 677 MW (265 MW wind and 412 MW solar). We appreciate the excellent cooperation with BELECTRIC, which will bring us a significant step closer to our target of 7 GW of generating capacity in Europe by 2027.”

Borrentin solar farm does not compete with agriculture, as it is being built on an area with an average agricultural land grade of 27.26 and thus on an area that would not have a good agricultural yield anyway. Only values above 40 are considered good agricultural land, and values above 60 are considered very good quality.

“We are proud that Encavis AG has chosen us as a partner for the construction of this exciting large-scale project after several years of good cooperation. This once again emphasises our strong presence in our German home market”, explains Dr Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC.

BELECTRIC commissions four German Solar Farms from its own Project Development

  • Commissioning of four solar farms in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and Hesse
  • BELECTRIC was responsible for both project development and construction
  • BELECTRIC takes over two of the solar power plants into its own asset company BELECTRIC Greenvest

Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, is commissioning four solar power plants in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and Hesse in Germany. The photovoltaic plants with a total installed capacity of more than 76 megawatts were not only constructed by BELECTRIC, but also developed in-house.

The solar energy company BELECTRIC is commissioning four more solar farms in Germany. The plants were constructed near Deubach (48 MWp) in the district of Lauda-Königshofen, Oberrammersdorf (10.7 MWp) in the district of Ansbach, Reddehausen (7.6 MWp) in the district of Marburg-Biedenkopf, and Rieden (10 MWp) in the district of Nürnberger Land. More than 140,000 modules were installed on the four sites. They will generate around 80 gigawatt hours of electricity and can therefore cover the annual requirements of a town like Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The solar farms were not only built by BELECTRIC, but also developed in-house. A particular focus was placed on the ecological and natural realisation of the plants. This includes, for example, flower strips, generous sowing of the areas with grass seed, and the creation of deadwood piles to provide shelter for sand lizards and slow worms. In Deubach and Rieden, a special seed is also used to protect the skylark.

The commissioning of the Deubach and Reddehausen plants also marks a milestone in BELECTRIC’s history. “We are adding the two solar farms to the portfolio of our asset company BELECTRIC Greenvest and thus are entering the IPP (Independent Power Producer) business segment. This means that we are selectively adding plants to our own portfolio and, as the owner, are also producing and marketing solar electricity”, explains Dr Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC. “In this way, we are expanding our value chain and complementing our expertise by looking through the glasses of our customers.”

BELECTRIC has sold the Rieden solar farm to its long-standing customer N-ERGIE Regenerativ GmbH. The Oberrammersdorf PV plant was transferred to Bürger-Energie Lichtenau eG, PV Wiedersbach GmbH & Co. KG, and Solarpark Osterburg GmbH & Co. KG and offers participation opportunities for citizens. BELECTRIC is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all projects.
