BELECTRIC completes solar farms for Stadtwerke Tübingen

  • Solar farms in Herlheim (13 MW) and Neusitz (8 MW) fully online
  • BELECTRIC retains responsibility for operation and maintenance of photovoltaic panels

Tübingen/Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC has completed two solar farms in Bavaria on time for Stadtwerke Tübingen. BELECTRIC developed and installed the solar farms in Herlheim and Neusitz, and will continue to operate them on behalf of the owner as the service provider. The green power produced by the two new solar assets will be sufficient to supply the equivalent of around 5,750 four-person households with climate-friendly electricity.

Ortwin Wiebecke, CEO of Stadtwerke Tübingen (swt), comments: “The completion date was very important for us for the Herlheim project in particular, where we market the electricity ourselves in the form of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Close and very good coordination with BELECTRIC enabled us to achieve the ideal timetable. That’s why we are very happy they were completed on time.”

Ingo Alphéus, CEO of BELECTRIC Solar & Battery GmbH, adds: “Because of Covid-19 it was not a given that we would be able to get both solar farms online on time. In times like this, ensuring that materials and components such as inverters and modules reached the site quickly enough was the greatest challenge.”

For the Herlheim solar farm, BELECTRIC installed more than 31,700 solar modules near the Bavarian town of Kolitzheim. With a peak capacity of around 13,000 kilowatts (kWp), it has the highest output of any solar farm within the swt portfolio and is one of the largest in the region. Its annual yield of renewable solar power is around
14.4 gigawatt hours (GWh). The second solar farm, in Neusitz in the rural district of Ansbach, has a total capacity of more than 7,700 kWp, and an anticipated power yield of around 8.6 GWh per year. For both projects, an environmental plan was put in place for the conservation of local flora and fauna. Some examples of key elements of this plan are compensatory zones for animals like ground-nesting birds and the conversion of brownfield land into flower strips and biotope components. BELECTRIC is a long-standing partner to Stadtwerke Tübingen, for which it has already completed five other solar projects.
