Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, welcomed Member of the German Bundestag Dr Anja Weisgerber to its Kolitzheim headquarters on October 29th. The visit focused primarily on the growing challenges related to the grid integration of utility-scale photovoltaic plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), as well as on the recently published Energy Transition Monitoring Report by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).

Political insights from Lower Franconia: On October 29th, the solar energy company BELECTRIC welcomed Dr. Anja Weisgerber to its headquarters in Kolitzheim. The guests from federal politics were received by the company’s management board and key representatives of BELECTRIC.

After a greeting from BELECTRIC CEO Dr Thorsten Blanke, Dr Weisgerber shared her assessment and outlook on renewable energy developments in Lower Franconia and Bavaria. After an in-depth discussion on the growing challenges of grid integration for utility-scale photovoltaic systems and BESS, the visit concluded with a tour of a large-scale storage facility and a nearby solar park, both constructed by BELECTRIC.

Member of the Bundestag Dr Anja Weisgerber states: “When it comes to climate protection, we must always consider public acceptance. Large-scale photovoltaic systems should provide areas for ecological compensation directly on-site – just as BELECTRIC demonstrates here with the Herleshof project in Kolitzheim. The expansion of renewables must be pursued consistently. The Herleshof plant in my constituency of Schweinfurt shows how climate protection, biodiversity, and public acceptance can go hand in hand.”

“Solar power plants in Germany are currently often only marginally profitable, as negative electricity prices caused by high feed-in volumes and low demand reduce revenues. That’s why greater system flexibility is needed – especially large-scale storage facilities that can absorb excess electricity and feed it back into the grid when required. Expanding storage capacities also strengthens grid stability and security of supply, without the need for government subsidy schemes. Storage is part of the solution”, explains Dr Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group.
