Did you know that around 11,000 bats live at our Groß Dölln solar project? Of the approximately 3,000 nesting boxes, most are occupied. In addition, the bats use various buildings and tree cavities as roosts.
The flower-rich areas of the solar farm, along with the nearby heathland, provide the bats not only with a safe retreat but also excellent hunting grounds. 🌸
A look into the past highlights the success: Despite the removal of about 80% of the buildings during the construction of the PV system in 2012, targeted measures—such as creating hiding spots and optimising the microclimate—have helped us increase the bat population tenfold.
Groß Dölln solar farm is a prime example of how renewable energy and active nature conservation can go hand in hand. 🌿
