- Elevion Group to build large-scale BESS facility in Germany as GBoP partner
- Project Bertikow to provide 200 MW of power and 840 MWh of storage capacity
- One of Germany’s largest battery storage systems
Kolitzheim (Germany) – Elevion Group, through its PV and BESS specialist BELECTRIC, has signed a GBoP contract for the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brandenburg, Germany. With an output of 200 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of approximately 840 megawatt-hours (MWh), the project will rank among the largest BESS in the country, contribute to grid flexibility, and support the integration of renewable energy into Germany’s electricity system.
In the municipality of Uckerfelde in the German state of Brandenburg, Elevion Group’s PV and BESS specialist BELECTRIC will serve as ENERTRAG SE’s and Enlight Renewable Energy’s General Balance of Plant (GBoP) partner for a large-scale battery energy storage system with an output of 200 MW and a storage capacity of approximately 840 MWh. In this role, BELECTRIC will deliver the project’s civil and electrical infrastructure up to the 33 kV medium-voltage level. Key elements of BELECTRIC’s scope include on-site interface management as well as road and earth works, foundations, cabling, archaeological monitoring, and environmental mitigation measures.
The standalone battery energy storage system will utilise proven lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, which is widely recognised for its long service life and high efficiency. Once commissioned, the facility will participate in Germany’s energy and ancillary services markets, providing flexibility to help balance electricity supply and demand. In doing so, the project will help stabilise the regional power grid, enhance security of supply, and facilitate the continued integration of renewable energy sources into Germany’s energy system.
Jaroslav Macek, CEO of Elevion Group, says: “As Europe’s energy systems grow increasingly renewable, flexibility and resilience are becoming just as important as generation capacity. By supporting the construction of project Bertikow, Elevion Group succeeds in addressing both challenges.”
Dr Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, adds: “With Bertikow, we are delivering one of Germany’s most significant battery storage projects as a GBoP partner. As one of the largest BESS in the country, this project demonstrates that battery systems can play a vital role in strengthening grid resilience and ensuring a secure energy supply in the renewable energy era.”
Initial construction activities have already commenced on site. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place at the project site on October 13th, 2026, with representatives of Enlight, ENERTRAG, and BELECTRIC in attendance. The project is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2028.
“As renewable energy expands across Europe, large-scale storage is becoming essential to grid flexibility and reliability. Bertikow will help meet these needs while further strengthening Enlight’s presence in the European energy storage market”, says Marko Liposcak, General Manager, Enlight Europe at Enlight Renewable Energy.
