- Westermeerdijk solar park to deliver 148 MWp of renewable energy
- Innovative design combines high performance with soil protection
Kolitzheim (Germany) – BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, has been awarded the construction of the Westermeerdijk solar park in the Netherlands. Combining cutting-edge technology with soil protection, the 148-Megawatt-Peak (MWp) project will rank among the largest solar parks in the country.
Together with its EPC specialist BELECTRIC, Elevion Group strengthens its position as one of the leading partners for utility-scale solar projects in the Netherlands. Following the successful construction of the country’s biggest solar farm, Eekerpolder (192 MWp), BELECTRIC will now deliver another large-scale project for Novar, a developer of green energy systems. The 148-MWp photovoltaic system will be located in the municipality of Noordoostpolder and stretch over more than six kilometres.
Westermeerdijk solar park features a fully east-west oriented layout, enabling optimal use of space and a balanced energy production profile. In addition, the so-called soil light exposure test – developed by TNO and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) – has been applied to assess whether sufficient daylight reaches the soil beneath and between the solar modules. Based on the test results, BELECTRIC will incorporate partially transparent modules into selected areas of the solar park to support vegetation growth and maintain soil quality. By integrating ecological considerations directly into the design, the project demonstrates how solar can deliver large‑scale renewable energy generation while enhancing biodiversity and long‑term land stewardship.
Jelmer Pijlman, Director and Co-founder of Novar, says: “With Zonnepark Westermeerdijk, we are taking an important step in shaping the energy landscape of the future. This project combines large-scale renewable generation with local ownership, responsible soil use, and an innovative grid connection. It is precisely this combination that makes Westermeerdijk unique: we are not just developing a solar park, but building an energy system ready for the future.”
Construction is scheduled to begin shortly. Following commissioning, BELECTRIC will also take over the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the plant, ensuring its reliable performance for years to come.
Dr Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC, member of Elevion Group, adds: “Westermeerdijk is a prime example of how solar projects can combine high performance with environmental responsibility. We are proud to bring our engineering expertise to a project that sets new standards in sustainable solar design.”
Jaroslav Macek, CEO of Elevion Group, says: “Projects like Westermeerdijk underline our strong and growing presence in the Dutch renewable energy sector, while showcasing how we leverage local expertise and group-wide capabilities to deliver future-ready energy solutions.”
